Minimalism has been a craze for a while. This page itself is made with it in mind. I’ll gladly criticize minimalism, though.
Minimalism can be very lazy. In a way, it is in the name. The minimum. You’re trying to do as little as possible. Why develop a complicated background when you can have a blank color? Why design a complicated type font when you can slap some sans-serif text on and call it a day?
Here is a piece of minimalist art:

Beautiful, isn’t it? It’s so minimal, the stroke wasn’t even centered, nor was it made parallel to the borders.
I will not lie, this is intentionally facetious and is hardly honest. Minimalism is nice, because it lets you strip away what isn’t necessary. The Minimalists sought to create art where even the artist themselves were not present.
Things can and will go astray. Minimalism has been co-opted by corporate art, as it requires less effort, thus less paid hours to produce. Because it’s minimal, it can easily be edited for whatever purposes arise.
